BP's oil spill bill reaches $ 2,350 million

LONDON – British oil group BP announced that the costs associated with the oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico had arrived on Friday at 2,350 million dollars.

This amount includes all expenses incurred by the group to contain and clean oil, drilling emergency aid paid to the coastal states, the damages paid and the payments to the federal authorities, reported BP. The British group reiterated that it was too early to calculate the final cost of the disaster.

Trading of fell this Friday morning to levels unseen in 13 years on the London Stock Exchange because of the incalculable costs. At about 09h25 GMT, BP stocks sank 6.57% to 304 pence on the London Stock Exchange, after falling shortly before to its lowest level in 13 years (300.58 pence).

From late April when the platform exploded and sank Deepwater Horizon, compared to Louisiana, the costs of the oil group to contain and clean up the oil spill have continued to increase, while continuing the dumping at sea of oil and polluted 200 km of coastline.

On Monday, BP announced that its expenses related to the oil spill had reached the limit of two billion dollars. Last week, the group had announced the creation of a fund of 20,000 million dollars will be devoted to compensating victims of oil pollution. But this amount is not capped and the total cost could be much higher.

I think we have to stop putting a dollar value on lives and livlihood. I don’t care how much they have spent – they have not accomplished containment of the oil – it STILL leaks with no end in site, and no back up plan for the next if it happens to not work! People all along our coasts are suffering – We are no closer today to getting this solved then we were on day 1. BP does not speak to us to calm our hearts, and they lack compassion. Until the oil is stopped (it is a WORLD problem, because it may never be stopped if they cannot get a hold on it now!) It just happens to be only affecting the US right now. Our Coast Guards need equipment for which BP will not authorize, once again BP cutting costs for profits.
